The first release of music since his 2017 album As You Were, Oasis member-turned-solo artist Liam Gallagher is back with a new single.

Fueled by gritty guitar, a bit of harmonica and Gallagher’s signature vocals, “Shockwave” is high-energy and a progression from the vintage-rock feel of As You Were.

“I’m buzzing. Buzzing to be alive, buzzing to be making tunes, raring to go,” Gallagher said in a statement. “It’s nice to be back with some new music because it means I can get out there, play some gigs and give some people some stick because that is what I do. Let’s face it, it’s boring without me.”

The single is the first bit of music from Gallagher’s forthcoming sophomore solo release Why Me? Why Not, the title of which he confirmed via Twitter in late May.

“Shockwave” also follows the Cannes Film Festival debut of Liam Gallagher: As It Was, which documents the musician’s life and career. Otherwise, Gallagher has been on a North American tour with The Verve’s Richard Ashcroft.

While there’s currently no release date for Why Me? Why Not, Gallagher has been slated to support The Who for select dates on their upcoming North American tour.
