On September 29th, Manchester Orchestra will play Manhattan’s Terminal 5—an industrial airplane hangar of a concert venue that can accommodate 3,000 people. It’s a fitting environment for the Atlanta-based collective’s wind tunnel of guitar, drums, keyboard and fury, buoyed by singer Andy Hull’s vivid narratives. Last week, the group unleashed its ferocious melodies on a lucky 200 at the Mercury Lounge—a nostalgic show celebrating the Orchestra’s 10-year anniversary at the venue. They also offered a preview of their new album, A Black Mile to the Surface, playing the title track in addition to “The Gold,” “The Alien” and “The Parts.” Paste photographer Drew Reynolds captured the epic event in the gallery above, including portraits and soundcheck. Manchester Orchestra embarks on a US tour that begins in early September and lasts through early November.
