Watch Red Hearse Make Their TV Debut on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon

The brainchild of Jack Antonoff, singer Sam Dew and producer Sounwave, Red Hearse, made their television debut Monday night with their performance of single “Half Love” on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Wearing matching jumpsuits and sitting in folding chairs around a small table, the trio leave the bells and whistles behind and simply perform the track in a tastefully minimalist way. The performance begins by zooming out on three action figures that portray the members of the band. The action figures are also seen in Red Hearse’s music video for “Half Love,” which stars singer and producer St. Vincent. Around the trio, the set’s lights dim and shine in accordance with the beats of the track to create a lo-fi, intimate performance.

The performance is simplistic but contains all the emotion heard in the lyrics, with Antonoff on the synthesizer and keys, Sounwave producing the electronic beats and Dew singing sweet, soulful falsettos about longing for an all-encompassing love. “’Cause everybody’s playin’ it loose, but / What if we were real, babe / ’Cause honestly / I’m just too good for that half love,” Dew sings.

The track is Red Hearse’s latest of three singles, which are all set to appear on the band’s forthcoming debut album, due later this summer via RCA Records. Similar to “Half Love,” “Red Hearse” and “Honey” are based in the snappy, hip-hop-influenced electronic beats and Dew’s sultry falsetto.
