Ryan Adams Shouts Out Colorado Media Again, Dedicating New Song to Newspaper

Rather than crafting new heartbreak ballads or covering hit Taylor Swift albums, Ryan Adams has lately turned his musical genius towards the muse that is the independent media of Colorado.

Last week, Adams shared a new song dedicated to regional radio station “105.5 The Colorado Sound,” and on Tuesday he highlighted Colorado media yet again, this time penning a song for Westword, an alternative newspaper based in Denver. You can listen to the track, which is encrypted only in Westword’s published love letter to the song, right here. The newspaper’s write-up also breaks down almost every lyric in the song, unpacking the local and regional nuggets left behind by Adams.

Both of these tracks are, as we can only guess, installments anticipatory of Adams’ June 14 show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo. Swedish duo First Aid Kit will provide support at the show, and tickets are still available at the Red Rocks website.

In the song, titled “WEST WORD,” Adams also sings, “This year’s Best of Denver / could be my new band Megacat,” but no word yet on whether Megacat is a real thing. Adams also teased the track’s release on Twitter a few days ago, observable below.

Ryan Adams’ most recent non-Colorado-related release is a single, “Baby I Love You,” which you can listen to here.
