Sade Releases Her First New Song in Seven Years, “Flower Of The Universe”

Sade has released a brand-new track, “Flower Of The Universe,” taken from Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time soundtrack.

Best known for smash-hit albums like 1984’s Diamond Life and 1985’s Promise, Sade’s previous most recent release was her 2010 album Soldier Of Love.

It was revealed earlier this month that A Wrinkle in Time director Ava DuVernay had enlisted Sade to appear on the soundtrack to her new Disney film. “Flower Of The Universe” is a somber acoustic ballad with Sade delivering her warm, soulful vocals with just as much passion and emotional honesty as ever.

When Sade last toured in 2012, she became the highest-earning British act in the U.S., even topping the powerhouse Adele. She hasn’t toured regularly or been in the public eye much recently and remains an elusive musical figure, with millions of fans just waiting for her to plot a return.

Other musicians featured on A Wrinkle in Time’s soundtrack include Demi Lovato, Sia and Kehlani. The movie, based on the fantasy novel of the same name by Madeleine L’Engle, stars Storm Reid, Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Chris Pine, Zach Galifianakis and others.

A Wrinkle in Time opens on March 9—check out a trailer for the film here.
