The Savannah Stopover festival kicked off last night, the first of four days of music, art, and Southern comfort. Inside at the Jepson Center for the Arts, the VIP lounge featured band posters designed by SCAD students and local artists, free booze, appetizers and a complimentary vintage photo booth. The outdoor stage in Telfair Square felt like a spooky block party for woodland elves—smoky mist veiled the neon stage lights and mystical tangles of Spanish moss hung from the trees above. Dinosaur Feathers and Oberhofer hit the stage and launched a high-energy blast of carbonated indie pop that resonated across a ten-block radius. Two of the five scheduled acts couldn’t make it—Australian trio Pond had a visa snafu, and Brooklynites DIVE only got as far south as New Jersey before their van died—so the lineup was a little light, but Oberhofer played an encore set at the after-party and kept The Jinx buzzing at 160 BPM well into the night.
