Live Photos: Behind the Scenes with Sinkane in New York

Earlier this month, Sinkane released fifth album Life & Livin’ It. It offers a finer iteration of bandleader Ahmed Gallab’s buffet of soul, funk, indie and latin-flavored pop, often elevated by his swimming falsetto. The record marks a new high for Gallab, who grew up in Sudan and London before moving to the U.S. as a teenager and playing as a session musician for bands including Yeasayer and Caribou. That honed musicianship is more than evident at live shows, as the group casts a potent spell of groove and flow over the audience. The Brooklyn natives jumped boroughs for a sold-out show at The Bowery Ballroom last week. Photographer Drew Reynolds spent some time before the performance capturing portraits before shooting the euphoric music. Sinkane is on tour throughout the U.S., Europe, Australia and New Zealand through August.
