Sleaford Mods Announce Eton Alive, Share “Kebab Spider”

English electro-punk duo Sleaford Mods have announced their fifth studio album, previewing Eton Alive (Feb. 22) with lead single “Kebab Spider.” The 12-track LP is vocalist Jason Williamson and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Fearn’s first release on their own newly formed label, Extreme Eating, as well as their first new album since departing Rough Trade Records.

Williamson opined on Eton Alive in a statement:

Eton Alive speaks for itself really. Here we are once again in the middle of another elitist plan being digested slowly as we wait to be turned into faeces once more. Some already are, some are dead and the rest of us erode in the belly of prehistoric ideology which depending on our abilities and willingness, assigns to each of us varying levels of comfort that range from horrible to reasonably acceptable, based on contribution. So after the digestive system of the Nobles rejects our inedible bones we exit the Arse of Rule, we fall into the toilet again and at the mercy of whatever policies are holding order in the shit pipe of this tatty civilisation. It is here our flesh regenerates as we rattle into another form, ready, and ripe for order.

As for lead single “Kebab Spider,” Williamson added:

The accumulation of torment for those that refuse to capitalise solely through mediocre channels and as a result are ejected back onto the concrete. Obscure and under the horror as a giant spider crawls out the crown of their small portion of street meat.

The single itself doesn’t seem quite as dire as all that—”Of course we’re fucking relevant,” Williamson sneers, backed by grimy synths and a twitchy bass line. Williamson and Fearn seem right at home alongside the song’s titular monstrosity, their crowns nodding and attitude overflowing. Dance while you can, folks.

Recorded in Nottingham, Eton Alive will be released in single-CD, single-LP and blue vinyl formats, and is available for preorder now. It’s the duo’s first LP since the February 2017 release of English Tapas.
