Former Smith Westerns Frontman Cullen Omori Details New Album, Releases Video for “Cinnamon”

“The band just didn’t work,” lead singer Cullen Omori told The Chicago Reader on the heels of the Smith Western’s breakup. Today, Omori announced his debut solo LP, New Misery, out on SubPop March 18.

With the news came a music video for the new wave-inspired track “Cinnamon” in which Omori wanders city streets in search of a grainy dream girl.

In an act of defiance toward the video’s end, Omori cooly flicks his lighted cigarette at a poster of the Smith Westerns, which bursts into flames and burns likes a wicker man effigy.
