Speedy Ortiz Cover Liz Phair’s “Blood Keeper,” Announce Sadie Dupuis Poetry Book

Speedy Ortiz has found the cure to the ole mid-week slump with a multitude of announcements to start the day.

Just in time for the start of their support tour with Liz Phair this week, the band has released a cover of Phair’s never-officially-released “Blood Keeper.” All profits from the single are directed towards the production and distribution of a “Make SpacesSsafer” pocket guide, created by Shawna Potter from punk group War On Women.

“If every venue’s staff had access to [“Making SpacesSsafer”], bands would have stronger allies in keeping their fans happy and safe,” says Speedy Ortiz frontperson Sadie Dupuis in a statement. “We came up with the idea of doing a fundraiser for the pocket guide, with the hopes of getting a few copies in the hands of each venue along our tour.”

In addition, Dupuis announced the upcoming release of her first published work, a book of poetry titled Mouthguard. The book, which Dupuis began in 2011 right around when Speedy Ortiz shared their first releases on Bandcamp, will be released on Nov. 1 through Gramma Press.

Mouthguard’s poems are magical escapism. They’re my devotional affirmations of manic love, or they’re incantations about illness and loss and the strangeness of bodies,” says Dupuis. “I mostly couldn’t believe these sad girl poems came out of me. I’m proud that they did, and glad I can finally share them.”
