New Spoon Album on the Way Gets Title, Rumored Release Date

It took more than four years for Spoon to follow-up 2010’s somewhat deflating Transference with the “late-career” highlight They Want My Soul. Fortunately for fans of the Texas indie-rock stalwarts, the wait might not be quite so long this time.

Recently on SiriusXM’s Debatable show, the band revealed that their new record is titled Hot Thoughts, and will be out in March (possibly March 17) through Matador. This is according to Spoon fan Tumblr Fuck Yeah Spoon, via Consequence of Sound.

Though the news hasn’t been officially confirmed by the label, it makes sense given that Spoon recently debuted a song titled “Hot Thoughts” at a secret show in Austin. Also, as we pointed out yesterday, the band is appearing at Panorama Music Festival in July, and confirmed in the same SiriusXM interview that they will be performing at South by Southwest, as well—SXSW is in mid-March, close to the rumored release date of Hot Thoughts. At any rate, Spoon are clearly up to something this year.

You can stream a bit of their SiriusXM chat here via Fuck Yeah Spoon. Paste has reached out to Matador to confirm the album’s release date and title. Meanwhile, enjoy Paste Cloud audio from Spoon’s 2008 Daytrotter session, as well as the still-great “Do You,” below.
