The Sundance Film Festival is obviously focused on movies, but music is also a huge part of what’s going on in Park City. This year’s fest featured a handful of music docs, including Muscle Shoals, Twenty Feet From Stardom and Sound City, as well as narratives starring musicians, like I Used to be Darker. The ASCAP Cafe and The Fender Lounge host a steady stream of performances, Park City Live has DJs and bands at night, and clubs like The Star Bar and Cisero’s feature more intimate shows. The highlight of the week was, without question, Dave Grohl’s Sound City showcase, where the Foo Fighters played alongside Stevie Nicks, John Fogerty, Rick Springfield, Krist Novaselic and members of Slipknot, Fear and Cheap Trick. The most surreal moment, though, happened a couple of nights later, when Courtney Love covered Jay-Z’s “99 Problems.”
