Tall Tall Trees Announces Fourth Album, A Wave of Golden Things

Asheville, N.C.-based artist Tall Tall Trees is back with his fourth studio album, A Wave of Golden Things, coming this January. Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mike Savino’s forthcoming album “abandons the heavily-layered textures of 2017’s Freedays for a more organic, stripped-down approach, leaving his distinct voice and thoughtful lyrics as the centerpiece,” per a press release.

Savino is known largely for his psychedelic electric banjo music and captivates audiences with his loop-based one-man shows. The Tall Tall Trees artist, who self-records and produces his music, recorded A Wave of Golden Things in just under three weeks, using a mobile recording rig on a hemp farm in the Appalachian mountains outside of Asheville, and arranging much of the album on the spot.

To accompany the album’s announcement, Savino premiered a track on Friday, “Expectations.” He sings, “I’m giving up on my expectations, let them go and see where it takes us,” sharing a sense of freedom, and leaving any feeling of requirement and expectation behind.

“Expectations’ is a surrender to the unknown,” Savino explains in a statement. “It is a song about rebirth and finding beauty in the minutiae of everyday life while tending to the fragile ecosystem that is mental health.”

A Wave of Golden Things arrives Jan. 31, 2020, but to tide you over, check out “Expectations” (a donkey is the star of the music video!) and Savino’s 2013 Daytrotter session below. You can preorder the album here.
