Listen to The Growlers’ Daytrotter Session, Recorded on This Day in 2010

On this day in 2010, California garage-surf rockers The Growlers stopped by the Daytrotter studio in Davenport, Iowa to perform songs from their first two albums.

The Growlers, also known for their California-based Beach Goth music festival, now in its eighth year, performed cuts from their 2009 debut album Hot Tropics and 2010 follow-up Are You In Or Out? Frontman Brooks Nielsen and co. rip through their waltzy retro rock tunes with Nielsen’s trademark raspy pipes and their moody, distorted guitars ever present in the foreground. Rollicking renditions of tracks like “Empty Bones” and “Sea Lion Goth Blues” capture their dusty aesthetic and cement their desert rock chops.
