The Raconteurs Share Roiling New Donovan Cover “Hey Gyp (Dig the Slowness)”

The Raconteurs are back with a new cover of the Donovan song “Hey Gyp (Dig the Slowness).” The fervent, roiling cover comes in anticipation of the band’s first new album in more than 10 years, Help Us Stranger, due out June 21 on Third Man Records.

The Raconteurs are a quartet made up of Jack White of The White Stripes, power-pop visionary Brendan Benson, bassist Jack Lawrence and drummer Patrick Keeler. 11 of the album’s 12 tracks were written by songwriting partners White and Benson, with the exception of the new Donovan cover. The Raconteurs already released two new singles and videos from Help Us Stranger at the end of last year, “Sunday Driver” and “Now That You’re Gone.”

A press release for “Hey Gyp (Dig the Slowness)” describes the band’s new material as “stronger and even more vital than ever before as they continue to push rock ‘n’ roll forward into its future, bonding prodigious riffs, blues power, sinewy psychedelia, Detroit funk, and Nashville soul via Benson and White’s uncompromising songcraft and the band’s steadfast musical muscle.”

Help Us Stranger will be the rock supergroup’s third studio album, the first two being 2006’s Broken Boy Soldiers and 2008’s Consolers of the Lonely. The band’s early work produced instantly recognizable rock hits like “Steady As She Goes” and “Salute Your Solution.”

The Raconteurs are hitting the road this summer for the first time since their last album came out. Their extensive list of tour dates will take them through North America, Europe, the U.K., Australia and Japan, stretching from the end of April all the way through October.
