The Spits: The Spits

Real talk: If you know who The Spits are, you already own this. So, for the uninitiated, let’s run through some fun facts, shall we? The Spits are, according to the bastion of all that is hacky Internet writing, Wikipedia, “a American Seattle-based punk musical group.” They’ve churned out at least 15 but probably not more than 19 releases—7-inches, full-lengths and compilations—between 2001 and the present. Of their five proper albums, including this one, five have been named The Spits.

They sound kind of like what The Ramones might sound like if they had more of a sense of humor, often wore costumes and utilized goofy lighting onstage, and played synthesizers. The Spits (the one this review is about, not any of the previous four) has a song called “Fed Up,” which is 49 seconds long, and goes chorus-verse-verse-bridge-chorus. It’s moving, passionate, catchy and to-the-point. It’s a fucking fantastic song. Moral of the story? In less than one minute, The Spits can do more than what most bands can do in four.
