Listen to The Watson Twins Cover Sade at Daytrotter on This Day in 2011

Last year, The Watson Twins, a.k.a. identical twins/folk songstresses Chandra and Leigh Watson, quietly released their sixth studio album. Appropriately titled DUO, it was their first record in five years, a follow-up to 2013’s Pioneer Lane. They co-wrote all eight songs on the record, what Paste’s Lee Zimmerman called “a compact offering that still manages to feel amply stocked and vibrantly infused despite any limited duration.”

Before Pioneer Lane, and after their famous collaboration with Jenny Lewis on Rabbit Fur Coat in 2006, The Watson Twins released Talking To You, Talking To Me in 2010. On this day (Jan. 28) in 2011, Chandra and Leigh stopped by the Daytrotter Studio in Rock Island, Ill., to play a few tunes from their then-fresh record. Before getting into their new material, however, they started their delightful set with a lively cover of Sade’s “Sweetest Taboo,” from the pop singer’s 1985 album Promise. Then, they played “Harpeth River” and “U N Me” from Talking.
