The Weeknd Donated $250,000 to Black Lives Matter

Music News The Weeknd

In early July, The Weeknd tweeted in support of Black Lives Matter following the killings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. To show his support, the R&B singer-songwriter also announced on Wednesday that he is donating $250,000 to the Black Lives Matter Network, per the Associated Press.

According to The FADER, this donation comes following the Canadian singer’s $50,000 donation (though the AP reports the amount to be $38,000) to The University of Toronto this weekend to create an Ethiopic Studies program.

Other artists, like Beyoncé and Jay Z, have also previously donated money to Black Lives Matter.
