The Weeknd Rejects His Past in the Dark, Cinematic “Starboy” Video

Last week, The Weeknd announced a new album and released its eponymous lead single, “Starboy,” featuring none other than Daft Punk.

The video, directed by Grant Singer (who has also directed other videos for The Weeknd, as well as Ariana Grande, Sky Ferreira and others) showcases the singer’s new image. Having cut off his signature hair, Abel Tesfaye’s stylistic changes go beyond just his appearance. The new song is a bit darker than the singer’s recent material, and it certainly pushes him into fresh creative territory.

The gripping and cinematic video has already been nominated for Best Video at this year’s MTV EMAs. See it for yourself above.

Starboy is scheduled to be released on Nov. 25. It was officially announced on Sept. 21 by The Weeknd via Twitter. Find that announcement and the Starboy album art below.
