The Whigs to Release Live Album Live in Little Five, Announce U.S. Fall Tour

Over the past 14 years, The Whigs have recorded five studio albums and toured the world with the likes of The Hold Steady, Kings of Leon and The Black Keys. The Nashville-via-Athens rock band now hopes to bring fans an album that captures their live show at its best.

Whigs lead singer and guitarist Parker Gispert told Paste, “We started writing songs with the stage in mind, not with the studio. We’re first and foremost a live rock band. So I feel like the album is the purest representation of us.”

Live in Little Five was recorded at Aisle 5 in Atlanta’s Little Five Points this past December, and will be released via New West on Nov. 11. “We thought there was no place better to do it than Atlanta or Athens,” said drummer Julian Dorio. “Those are the cities where we got our start and it was a really fun hometown crowd. It was just as special as we’d hoped.”

The 10 tracks “represent the songs that are on set night in and night out,” according to Gispert, as well as two new songs from a forthcoming studio album. Both Dorio and Gispert noted that the improvised section of “Staying Alive” is their favorite moment on the album, as it’s never played exactly the same.

“I’m just really happy that we nailed ‘Staying Alive’ on the night that we were recording live,” said Gispert. “Like a really great, epic version of it the night that we had the mics on.”
