Watch Twin Peaks’ Freewheeling New Video for “Wanted You”

It’s been almost a year since Twin Peaks released their excellent third album Down In Heaven and the young Chicagoans are keeping their raucous rock ‘n’ roll domination rolling. On the same day that they kick off a co-headlining tour with Spanish indie rockers Hinds, they’ve also released a new music video for Down In Heaven standout “Wanted You.”

Directed by Ezra Ewen, the video features a hodgepodge of footage, including tour antics, live video from a 2016 New York show, and some occasionally discomfiting animal masks. According to singer and guitarist Clay Frankel, there wasn’t any need for a big to-do around the video’s conception, and it seems to have come together without a whole lot of planning. As he puts it, “We had a list of a few things when we started; snow, old car, candles, paint, coats, chess, animal masks. Most of it was things we had lying around. We improvised it and then we played with the editing, using reverse footage, to give it a cycle, so it ends where it begins.” While it’s nothing conceptually mind blowing, that’s never been the Twin Peaks way. The clip manages to capture that certain pang of sadness in the song while also letting the band’s more wild, carefree and absurd attitude shine through.

Twin Peaks released their first live album, Urbs in Horto, at the end of last month, which is available to stream now, and they’ve extended their 2017 touring schedule with a new run of June dates around the Northeast, including some with Ron Gallo, along with a string of supporting dates for Spoon in the Midwest this September.

You can watch the “Wanted You” video above, and below you’ll find a full list of the band’s upcoming tour dates, along with Paste Cloud audio from their 2014 Daytrotter session. You can also check out their recent cover of The Rolling Stones’ “Dead Flowers” here.
