Violent Femmes Release “Another Chorus,” New Single from Hotel Last Resort

Pioneering ‘90s college-rock heroes Violent Femmes have unveiled the latest cut from their forthcoming album Hotel Last Resort, a catchy, pop-resentful track titled “Another Chorus.”

“Another Chorus” finds the band revisiting their familiar, chunky acoustic banging and busy, buzzing bass riffs as vocalist Gordon Gano grumbles about pop sensibilities with acid-tongued spite: “Please don’t sing another chorus / That’s the thing that starts to bore us.” (But isn’t pop supposed to be cool now?)

The track is one of two songs on the album that was written shortly before going into the studio, Gano said in a statement, and “when we were recording it, the general feeling was that there’s something here, and after recording what we thought was the take, our producer Ted Hutt implored us to revisit it because something was missing, and I’m glad we did.”

The follow-up to the band’s 2016 reunion album We Can Do Anything, Hotel Last Resort is set for release July 26 via PIAS, and will carry over the band’s signature take on folk and post-punk.

The album will feature an appearance from pro skateboarder Stefan Janoski, who lends vocals to the band’s reworking of their 1994 single “I’m Nothing,” and Television frontman Tom Verlaine (the latter of which Gano calls “one of the greatest thrills of a long recording career”). The tracklist will also include covers of Pyx Lax’s “I’m Not Gonna Cry” and Irving Berlin’s “God Bless America.”

The band will embark on a wide-ranging live schedule to support Hotel Last Resort, and additional dates, including a North American headlining tour, will be announced soon.
