Listen to Wilco’s New Beatles-Inspired Single, “Someone to Lose”

Music News Wilco

Wilco has shared the third single from their forthcoming tenth album, Schmilco, due out Sept. 9. “Someone to Lose,” a quirky, Beatles-inspired track, adheres to frontman Jeff Tweedy’s depiction of a “joyously negative” album. Dazed acoustic strumming, alternated with punchy rock, accompanies the playful melody in which Tweedy sings, “I hope you find somebody to lose someday.”

“I don’t think I’ve been afraid to show emotion,” Tweedy told Consequence of Sound. “But there are certain things I feel are just so silly and cliché to share as a singer-songwriter. And on this record I think I just went, ‘Fuck it.’”

The song is available as a free download to anyone who pre-orders Schmilco before its official release in September. The album will be available on vinyl on Sept. 6, when Wilco will host “I Heard Schmilco” listening parties. In support/promotion of the in-store events, the band is unveiling a series of short video clips via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram this week—find the first clip, starring the very funny John Hodgman, right here.
