Hear Yuck at Daytrotter on This Day in 2011

When the beloved, vibrant English band Cajun Dance Party disbanded in 2008, fans were disappointed. But two of its core members, Londoners and longtime friends Daniel Blumberg and Max Bloom, weren’t done with music just yet. Along with Mariko Doi, Jonny Rogoff and Ed Hayes, they started another project, the rock band Yuck, and wooed the music media and fans all over again, drawing comparisons to ’80s and ’90s heroes like My Bloody Valentine, Built To Spill and Dinosaur Jr. Today, Yuck boasts leagues of fans and three studio albums, but in 2011 they were just getting started. They released their self-titled debut album on Fat Possum in February of that year. A few months later, on this day (April 11) in 2011, they recorded a Daytrotter session at Big Orange Studios in Austin, Texas. Listen to it below.

The group performed four songs from Yuck during their session: “The Wall,” “Shook Down,” “Suicide Policeman” and “Holing Out.” Daytrotter’s Sean Moeller described Yuck’s emboldened DIY sound like this: “Yuck is a genius color black of 1990s indie rock and roll, a combination of nearly everything good about the decade, all thrown into the can and shaken together.”

Yuck’s most recent album was 2016’s Stranger Things. Blumberg exited the band in 2013. Meanwhile, Bloom says he has new solo music on the way this year. You can listen to a demo on Soundcloud.
