About the Book

Twelve-year-old Josiah Mench is a dreg, one of society's off-cast scourings. He is poor, filthy, illiterate. His only friend, Liam Taylor, tolerates Josiah as a function of proximity: they are neighbors. But when pandemic wipes away all but a remnant, the two find themselves shoulder to shoulder facing a world upended.

Catastropolis is a story of apocalypse. When all generations but the youngest are lost, the structures of society fail--utterly, maybe forever. But there are beginnings too, visions of what life in a new future might hold for those willing to fight for it. It is here in this new, primitive age that Josiah finds his voice, and Liam's people find a prophet to lead them out of a violent wilderness. But it is also here, in the fledgling community of New Alaiedon, that heaven and hell will contend for them first.
