About the Author

Oswald Chambers was born in Scotland and spent much of his boyhood
there. His ministry of teaching and preaching took him for a time to the
United States and Japan. The last six years of his life were spent as principal of the Bible Training College in London and as a chaplain to British Commonwealth troops in Egypt during World War l. After his death, the books which bear his name were compiled by his wife from her own verbatim shorthand notes of his talks.
Over a century ago, Oswald Chambers captured the imagination of his
hearers, and his straightforward yet profound wisdom continues to
challenge and encourage minds today. Although he is best known for the
classic devotional My Utmost for His Highest—which has been in print
continuously in the United States since 1935—all of his writings speak
straight to the heart, exploring the depths of our humanity and our
profound need for a God-focused life.

Updated Edition
The idea for a new edition of My Utmost for His Highest was prompted by
changes in the English language since the book’s original publication—in
England in 1927 and in the United States in 1935. James Reimann, owner
of a Christian bookstore, was concerned that readers were not gleaning
all they could from My Utmost for His Highest, so he created what could
be considered a translation of the book. Reimann conducted thousands of
word studies to render an accurate yet readable edition and added
references for all Scripture quotations. James wrote, “I encourage
you to read with this book in one hand and your Bible in the other. The
desire of my heart is that this work will unlock for you the treasure of
the truth of God’s Word and the insights into that truth that Oswald
Chambers explored.”
