Learn to be "The Completely Passionate Bassist"

This book is the first in a series of six books that I believe will take you, the reader, on a journey to becoming a completely passionate bassist. Passion says I can, when there is no reason to. I have to say that playing music is so much more than notes and rhythm; it is creating moods, painting pictures and telling stories. It’s about the communication of the soul, a language that is global and timeless. As a guitar and bass teacher, of 30 years, I have learnt that my role is not about me looking good and being admired but it is about me helping you to realise how much you can create. Do you want to create music that inspires others? Book one lays the foundation with the all important technique. Then you are ready to move on and build more and more until you are free to fly solo. If you feel curious join me on this journey and see. Stephen Utting.

About the Author

My name is Stephen Utting. I have loved music all my life. When I held my first guitar, at the age of 7, I had just watched BB King play on the TV. The TV belonged to a friend and it was the first time I had seen one, but that seemed to matter less as I watched BB King play. I tried to match what I heard on my half size classical guitar. I didn’t sound the same but I was hooked.
By the age of 21 I had been playing in a number of bands and styles. I then decided to go to London and make my fortune and find fame. I went from audition to audition and kept hearing the same thing – “We have so many guitarists auditioning we can’t see you all but we are struggling to find a bass player so if is interested in auditioning for bass that would be good.” I decided to get a bass and teach myself enough to audition. I went to my first audition as a bass player and I was the only one there. I got the job, went on a huge learning curve and haven’t looked back.
Soon other guitarists were asking me to teach them to play bass and my teaching career began. Now 30 years later this series of books are the result of my playing and teaching careers. Enjoy!
