"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14
God's will is that every believer would live in revival. God's will is that we would presently experience "eternal life, to know the One True God, and Jesus Christ" (John 17:13). He came all the way from Heaven to Earth, and died on a cross, so that we "might have life, and life abundantly" (John 10:10). Restoration to this life in the church is the only thing that will restore honor to God's name, wherever we live. But what is the cost? Jesus says it clearly: "Whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it" (Matthew 16:25). Of course, this reveals a frightening truth: many in Christianity today want God's promises without His conditions. We want God to make us alive, but we don't want to die to ourselves. We want a clear conscience, but we don't want to surrender, and to trust in Christ to actually save us from a life of sin. We want relational forgiveness without repentance. We want our land healed, without humility, prayer, repentance, and a desperate seeking after God. Many of our prayers tempt God today more than anything else. How can we pretend to ask God to revive us when our actions show that we are actually unwilling to be revived? How can we pretend to have a real, living trust in the Savior, when we completely disregard the words He has spoken?
These questions are heavy, but they are questions that need to be asked. These are the kind of questions that were pounding on my heart during the period of time that I wrote these four songs (which are packed with scripture). God, by His grace, and through the work of Christ, is willing and able to both forgive us, and restore us to a thriving, holy relationship with Himself. My prayer is that God will use these songs to take listeners down by the foot of the cross, to kneel down, and say: "Lord, I need help and forgiveness that only you can give, and I know you are willing to give it."
