Since stepping out on a solo ministry path, John Randolph has been making a mark for God in the Christian Country music world. After serving for six years as the lead singer for the East Texas based Southern Gospel group The CrossMen, John made the decision to follow his heart and roots back to Texas…and country music.
“I grew up with country music blaring 24/7 on some form of a stereo, TV, radio or record player. My dad put down a foundation that was too deep to consider any other form of music,” John says. “Country music has always had a way of touching hearts and getting people to feel the emotion of the song – the lyrics, the music, the instruments, and the beat – when you infuse the Gospel of Jesus Christ, it becomes a force that changes lives! I’m just honored that God allows me to be a part of His army to spread His message like this.”
This project marks John's first full-length CD project and follows his initial single release in 2012 of the hit "Call Me Old Fashioned" which appearted in Christian Voice Magazine's Christian Country Charts in April of last year and is still a Top 20 song in Jaunary 2013. The new project titled "Soakin' Up The Son" is a great mixture of traditional country sounds (New Step) and upbeat sounds of today's country in songs like "I'm Your Man."
With his first full year of solo ministry wrapping up, John has received several accolades from both fans and other industry professionals. In June 2012, John was nominated as a Top 5 Finalist for the King Country Agape Fest’s Male Horizon Award and is up for the same award this year as well as song of the year for "Call Me Old Fashioned." In 2013, John has been nominated for the Christian Voice Magazine's Country Gospel Music Fan awards New Artist, Favorite Male Vocalist and Favorite Song of the Year for "Call Me Old Fashioned."
“It has truly been an unbelievable year for us! Having a song like “Call Me Old Fashioned” that has really touched people’s hearts was more than we could have hoped for,” John said. “We have had the chance to minister and share the stage this past year with guys like Tommy Brandt, Chuck Day, Wes McMillian, Danny Ray Harris and Hunter Erwin – some of the true trailblazers in Christian Country music – and it has been so humbling. We have sought to place God first in all we do and working with guys like this gives us great examples to follow.”
