Kayla Mickelsen blends Folk and Psychedelic Pop into a relatable, emotional, and artistic experience. Beginning classical piano at the age of five, she found comfort and a sense of belonging in sound.
Kayla grew up in Geneva, Illinois and began finding herself as a Folk artist when she received her first guitar for her 16th birthday and began writing songs that evoked the likes of the work of Elliott Smith. Inspired by older icons like The Beatles, Patsy Cline, and Bob Dylan, Kayla recognizes classic sound while also incorporating innovative and modern ideas.
Kayla competed in the Farewell Season of American Idol in 2016 and progressed to the Top 51 with her “light and quirky personality” and “dark and different voice.” Kayla currently lives, writes music in, and performs in Nashville, while also attending Belmont University as a full time student.
