It’s Carnival in Recife. It’s Mardi Gras in New Orleans. And watch out: That just may be the Devil spinning through the drunken, dancing crowd, trying to get friendly with the saint in disguise, with the diamond in the rough. The rolling drums and quicksilver accordion licks, the earthy vibe and thoughtful reflections mingled on Matuto’s 2013 album, The Devil and The Diamond.

Now, profoundly influenced by their state sponsored 5 country tour of Africa, the fun and frenetic Matuto add the sounds of Africa to their Appalachia-gone-Afro-Brazilian sound, with five musical "love letters" to each of the countries they visited (Mozambique, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Cameroon and Senegal), the sounds they heard, and the people who welcomed and inspired them along the way.

This sampler contains one track from each of Matuto's three releases - their self titled debut Matuto, 2013 follow upThe Devil and the Diamond, and 2014 EP Africa Suite (November 4).
