"Empty Me" is an original hymn written during a time of deep personal struggle, soul-searching, and ultimately surrender to God. The words and music came to me on a late summer afternoon in 2014 after I had just spent several hours wandering through a local cemetery praying, thinking, and wrestling with God about the trajectory of my life. I'm sure that the lyrics were also influenced by a recent reading of A.W. Tozer's classic book "The Knowledge of the Holy." The musical style reflects a desire I had at the time to create something with a folksy, melancholy yet soulful vibe. I pray that you are blessed, encouraged, and challenged as you listen and reflect on the preciousness of your life and that day when you will stand face-to-face before our Good and Holy Creator.
Many many thanks to the amazing Jack Doutt for all of his time and work on this project (recording, re-recording, editing, mixing, and also playing electric guitar and bass).
Heart-felt thanks to my wonderful musical friends who made such a great contribution to this recording:
Lisa Bolar (vocals)
Emily Rader (cello)
Marco Palmer (drums)
(That's me on the lead vocal, acoustic guitar, and harmonica by the way.)
And a shout out to my former student Michelle Dekkers who created the beautiful album art.
Love and thanks to my wife and kids for their constant encouragement and support along the way.
All praise and glory to the Triune God who is so worthy of our eternal adoration and our earthly surrender. Thanks be to God the Father for the gift of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ--the Only Advocate and Mediator given to humanity through whom we may stand before our Creator with blessed assurance, humble confidence and endless joy!
