We wrote "Jesus, Messiah" to be a tool for celebrating
and remembering what it is the Messiah came to do. Our Advent series this year at Providence has been an in-depth study of Isaiah 61:1-3, which is what Jesus
quotes as his inaugural speech in Luke 4, the mission statement of the Messiah.
He declares that He is the true anointed one of God that comes to heal the poor
and hurting, to set free those enslaved and to restore all things. So, we sing
it to remember why he came and to remind us to direct all of our hopes and desires
to him and is second coming. Come quickly, Lord Jesus!
