LeBron James Says He Will Not Be Part of Team USA in Rio

Olympics News

According to LeBron James’ Agent, Rich Paul, the basketball star and recent NBA champion will not be joining the ranks of Team USA at this year’s Olympics. “I could use the rest,” James told Cleveland.com.

James previously won two gold medals at the 2008 and 2012 games while on Team USA. He, of course, already took home a different kind of gold after the Cavs’ recent momentous, Game of Thrones-interrupting NBA Finals victory over the Golden State Warriors, after which he was also named Finals MVP.

James joins Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook, Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul and Gordon Hayward on the growing list of players who have bowed out of competing in the Rio games due to injuries or the need to rest.

Team USA’s 12-man roster is expected for official announcement later this week. Just yesterday, six players, including Carmelo Anthony, Jimmy Butler, Klay Thompson, Kyle Lowry, DeAndre Jordan and DeMar DeRozan, all committed to competing in the Rio games.

They will join Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, DeMarcus Cousins and Paul George in Rio on Aug. 5.
