Russian businessman in 2015: “We Can Engineer” Trump’s Presidency

Felix Sater, a Russian-born business associate of President Donald Trump, sent emails to Michael Cohen (Trump’s lawyer) promising a connection to Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, reports the New York Times.

The emails were in connection to a real estate deal the Trump Organization was considering, involving a Trump Tower (that never materialized) in Russia.

A quote directly from the email: “I know how to play it and we will get this done. Our boy can become President of the USA and we can engineer it.”

As the New York Times notes: “The emails show that, from the earliest months of Mr. Trump’s campaign, some of his associates viewed close ties with Moscow as a political advantage. Those ties are now under investigation by the Justice Department and multiple congressional committees.”

In the emails, Sater mentions how he also “arranged” a tour of Moscow for Ivanka Trump (who said she had no knowledge or connection to any deals with Putin).

The Trump Organization responded with this statement: “To be clear, the Trump Organization has never had any real estate holdings or interests in Russia.”
