Trump Disapproval Rating Hits New High, Half Favor Impeachment in New Poll

A new ABC News/Washington Post poll finds President Trump’s disapproval rating at a new high, with support down for the president even within his own party.

Sixty percent of those polled in a national survey now disapprove of the president’s job performance, one point above the previous high, and the news is no less optimistic when it comes to the ongoing Mueller investigation and calls for Trump’s impeachment.

A majority of Americans, 63-29, support former FBI director Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian intervention in the 2016 election. About half of Americans, 49-46, also back the start of impeachment proceedings against Trump.

Trump’s approval rating among Republicans now also matches his record low, 78 percent, and a third (32 percent) of Republicans join the majority of Americans in support of Mueller in his investigation of the Trump campaign.

When it comes to the economy, one of Trump’s major selling points, however, Americans were fairly split. 45 percent of those polled said they approve of his performance on the economy, while 47 percent disapprove.

In the context of (*gestures wildly*) all this chaos, it’s a small sign that the president’s combative behavior isn’t coming entirely without consequence. Midterm elections are coming up sooner than you’d think, after all.
