Hillary Clinton Rebukes Trump Administration, Warns That LGBTQ+ Rights Are at Risk

Since President Donald Trump’s inauguration three months and one day ago, Hillary Clinton has attempted to find her voice in criticizing a president she vehemently disagrees with on almost every issue.

Last night, during a speech at the LGBTQ organization The Center, the former Secretary of State and 2016 Democratic nominee gave what’s perhaps her most full-throated repudiation yet. While accepting an award, Secretary Clinton said: “The progress that we fought for, that many of you were on the front lines of and that we celebrated and maybe even taken for granted, may not be as secure as we once expected.”

Secretary Clinton also asserted that the current administration can’t be counted on to protect LGBTQ rights, and cited the Trump administration’s recent decision to scale back federal guidelines that instructed schools to allow transgender students to use their preferred bathroom (a move Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos disputed).

To underscore the importance of participating in the forthcoming midterms, Secretary Clinton told those in attendance that the only real way to prevent more rollbacks such as the one on bathrooms is to “make it clear where our country stands” in the 2018 elections.
