Republican Admits He Was Wrong, World Stops Spinning

Apparently for some Republicans, ignorance isn’t bliss. Republican Senator John Kennedy, who represents Louisiana, recently told Fox News’ Chris Wallace that he didn’t know whether Russia or Ukraine hacked the Democratic National Committee during the 2016 election, despite a consensus agreement stating that Russia was responsible. Now, Kennedy has gone back on that statement, saying he “misheard” Wallace’s question (per The Daily Beast).

When Wallace noted that the intelligence community had concluded that Russia was responsible for the hack, Kennedy had retorted, “It could also be Ukraine.” Kennedy has now refuted that claim, telling Chris Cuomo on CNN Monday night that he “was wrong. The only evidence I have, and I think it’s overwhelming, is that it was Russia who tried to hack the DNC computer … I’ve seen no indication that Ukraine tried to do it.”

Kennedy cornered himself in a lie and thankfully recanted it. For the GOP’s standards, some self-reflection is better than none, so we’ll take it.
