Sacha Baron Cohen Dressed Up as a Military Vet and Fooled Sarah Palin In Interview

It’s been a long time since a premise of a news story made me laugh as much as this one: Comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, of Borat fame, apparently dressed up as a U.S. military veteran to get a sitdown interview with former Alaska governor and current crackpot Sarah Palin. This whole thing apparently started with a Matt Drudge tweet:

That prompted Palin to respond on Facebook, with a long rant in which she—of course—hid behind the troops and called Baron Cohen “evil.” Apparently Palin and her daughter flew across the country for what they thought was a “thoughtful discussion with someone who had served in uniform” as part of what she was told was a “legit Showtime historical documentary.” Per Palin:

I sat through a long “interview” full of Hollywoodism’s disrespect and sarcasm – but finally had enough and literally, physically removed my mic and walked out, much to Cohen’s chagrin. The disrespect of our US military and middle-class Americans via Cohen’s foreign commentaries under the guise of interview questions was perverse.

Palin went on to claim Baron Cohen was mocking the troops (we’ll see), and that the show’s producers purposefully dropped her and her daughter off at the wrong airport so they’d miss their flights. As with everything Palin says, those nuggets should be taken with a giant grain of salt.

Here’s how she concluded:

Feel good and manly about your M.O., Sacha?

By the way, my daughter thinks you’re a piece of ****, Sacha. Every honorable American Vet should feel the same.

Personally, I can’t wait for this show, and it looks like Baron Cohen really explored the full political spectrum. I mean, if he got Bernie and Palin, who didn’t he get?
