When Hertha Berlin’s Per Ciljan Skjelbred ran into a mini-footwear crisis during this weekend’s game against Borussia Dortmund, you’d have expected a team in Dortmund’s desperate situation—the expected title challengers are somehow third-from bottom of the Bundesliga table—to target that weak spot and mount an attack.
Instead, Dortmund defenders Mats Hummels and Neven Subotic took it in turns to put their foot on the ball and hold up play so Skjelbred could get himself sorted.
It’s not often we get to praise the generosity of defenders in an unironic way, so hats off to Hummels and Subotic for some good old-fashioned fair play.
