Summer movie marketing weirdness has been a thing for a while now, but, with one or two exceptions, Hollywood has kept its tinseled hands off European football. Until now.
After the club raised eyebrows last week when a few of its ‘mascots’ (in England, mascots are those kids that follow players out on the pitch for some reason) arrived on the pitch painted blue apparently as part of an X-Men marketing gimmick, Man United cemented their status as the corporate sellout kings of England.
Though it would be hard to top using children as human billboards, the movie marketing tie in reached new heights today with a spoof trailer which includes some hard cringeworthy voiceovers and some, um, “acting” by Wayne Rooney. Enjoy?
