Taran Killam Will Play Hamilton‘s King George in His Broadway Debut

Taran Killam’s run on Saturday Night Live may be over, but he’ll still be on a New York stage fairly regularly. The former SNL cast member is set to make his Broadway debut as King George in a little show called Hamilton.

Killam is set to begin his run on Jan. 17, and will replace Rory O’Malley, the current king, who’s making his final bow on Jan. 15. Killam will be rather busy in the coming months, as he’s also been cast in a Showtime pilot called Mating, which focuses on a recently divorced man who is forced to confront the modern hookup scene.

The role of King George was originated on Broadway by Jonathan Groff, who earned a Tony nomination for his work. Although the role has a total of roughly seven minutes of stage time, it’s hard to deny the simple impact of those minutes—see what we mean below.
