Dubai’s Getting a Marvel and Cartoon Network Theme Park

Travel News

Marvel Comics has basically controlled movie theaters for the last few years. In 2016 alone, there are six movies based on the Marvel universe slated for release.

In an effort to capitalize on the world’s current obsession with all things marvel, Dubai, which consistently has a knack for building some of the world’s greatest tourist attractions, has announced the city’s newest amusement park will include Marvel-themed section.

The indoor amusement center, called IMG Worlds of Adventure, is expected to cost around $1 billion to build, and cover about 1.5 million square feet of total space. The park is set to open on August 15, and plans attract as many as 4.5 million visitors in its first year.

The Marvel section will feature rides based on some of the franchise’s most popular characters, such as Hulk, Spiderman, The Avengers and Thor. Additionally, there will also be Marvel-based dining, food carts and shopping options.

In addition to the park’s Marvel area, Worlds of Adventure will also include a dinosaur-themed section, a “Cartoon Network adventure zone” and IMG Boulevard, a section meant to serve as the central shopping and dining location.

The park won’t be without its competitors though. Abu Dhabi just announced an upcoming Warner Brothers park, while Dubai Parks and Resorts, a 25 million square foot amusement center with its own water park and Legoland is set to open before the end of the year.

In the meantime, those who can’t afford a ticket to one of these parks may just have to settle for a ticket to see Captain America: Civil War this summer instead.
