After a small bidding war, CBS All Access has landed a limited series based on Jonathan Eig’s biography Ali: A Life, titled 8 Fights – The Life of Muhammad Ali.
The project is a collaborative project from Morgan Freeman’s Revelations Entertainment and CBS TV Studios. The series is framed by eight fights over Ali’s legendary boxing career while chronicling his internal struggles outside of the ring, per Deadline.
The series will be written and executive produced by Dan Kay, with Freeman, Lori McCreary and Beth Miyares for Revelations. Erica Shelton will serve as a consulting producer through her overall deal with the production company.
8 Fights are one of many projects CBS TV Studios has in production or development, with shows like Star Trek: Discovery, The Good Fight and The Twilight Zone (all on CBS All Access), Netflix’s American Vandal and Dead to Me, and Your Honor and Cartoon President for Showtime. It is the first pitch to a script-to-series commitment contingent upon a finished script by the studio.
Revelation is no stranger to the CBS/Viacom family, as it produces the hit series Madam Secretary.
Hopefully, this new series will be able to capture the inner workings of the late boxing legend and activist in a way other projects have never done before.
