Get Your First Look at Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf in New A Series of Unfortunate Events Trailer

The new TV adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events is coming in January, and though we got a teaser a month ago, it didn’t show much, so we’re getting our first proper look at the show with its latest trailer.

The star of the trailer is Neil Patrick Harris’ evil Count Olaf. He’s called “terrible,” “horrible,” “awful,” and labeled a “thief,” “murderer,” “wretch” and “villain,” and right as we get our first good look at him, he says, “You haven’t the faintest idea.” It’s a good schtick for building up your main villain, but Harris doesn’t exactly look that menacing in his bald cap, unibrow and goatee. He’s a good actor, though, so maybe the villainy will come through better in his performance.

And though Olaf is the star of the trailer, we also get our first look at the real stars of the show, the Baudelaire children, whose fortune Olaf is trying to steal. They definitely look sad, so that’s basically half the performance down.

A Series of Unfortunate Events premieres on Netflix on Jan. 13. Watch the trailer above.
