Amazon Nabs U.S. Rights to Seven Agatha Christie Properties

Amazon has landed a plush multi-show deal with the queen of uncertainty and murder plots, Agatha Christie, granting the streaming service U.S. rights to seven forthcoming dramas based on the author’s works. The first adaptation will be Christie’s 1958 novel Ordeal by Innocence, which began filming in Scotland earlier this month, per Variety.

Agatha Christie has called Ordeal by Innocence one of her favorite books. In it, after the Argyle family’s black sheep Jack is sentenced to life in prison for killing his mother, the rest of the family is horrified to learn that Jack may actually be innocent, meaning that someone else in the family is the culprit.

Ordeal will be a three-part BBC One miniseries featuring an ensemble cast from all corners of Hollywood: Bill Nighy (Love Actually), Alice Eve (Star Trek: Into Darkness), Ella Purnell (Maleficent), Matthew Goode (The Good Wife), Catherine Keener (Get Out), Ed Westwick (Gossip Girl), Luke Treadaway (Fortitude), Eleanor Tomlinson (Poldark) and Morven Christie (The A Word).

Christie’s famous whodunits are adapted into miniseries or videogames nearly once a year. BBC One most recently produced And Then There Were None in December 2015 and The Witness for the Prosecution in December 2016, and Kenneth Branagh’s Murder on the Orient Express is due out in November.
