The CW Gives First Look at Ruby Rose’s Batwoman

Earlier this year, The CW announced a crossover in its DC shows featuring Batwoman, as well as an entirely new series for the character. Ruby Rose’s casting as Batwoman was revealed soon after that. On Tuesday, the network offered a first look at Rose in costume.

Colleen Atwood’s costume design is pretty impressive—she’s won four Oscars for her work in costume design, so no surprise there. Rose dons the cowl and even matches skin tone with the original comic design. Fans of Batwoman will be happy to see her vibrant red wig and lipstick, too.

For those who don’t know Batwoman, aka Kate Kane, she’s Jewish, a lesbian and can go toe-to-toe with Batman himself any day. The character will mark the first appearance of an openly gay superhero on television, which is appropriate for Rose, who’s gay herself and identifies as gender fluid.

Although fans won’t see a full-blown Batwoman solo series until 2019-2020, her landmark debut episode comes to networks this December, when the worlds of Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl collide.

Caroline Dries, who will write Batwoman, shared the photo in a tweet that you can check out below.
