The CW Orders Batwoman Pilot Starring Ruby Rose

The CW has given a pilot order to Batwoman, starring Ruby Rose as the titular superhero, aka Kate Kane, per EW. Emmy-winning Game of Thrones director David Nutter is on board to helm the pilot, as he did with fellow Arrowverse series Arrow and The Flash.

Last October, The CW shared a first-look image of Rose’s Batwoman, and the character made her debut last month during the network’s Arrowverse DC crossover event.

The CW has shared the following synopsis for Batwoman:

Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane (star Ruby Rose) soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.

If picked up to series, Batwoman would premiere in the 2019-2020 season, and would become the first live-action show to be led by an openly gay superhero.
