FX Orders Pilot for New Comedy Series Starring Cristin Milioti and Nina Pedrad

It has been announced today that FX Networks has ordered a pilot for an upcoming comedy series written by and starring comedy veterans Cristin Milioti and Nina Pedrad. The fledgling show already boasts an impressive staff, with the two stars, plus It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton, Charlie Day and Nick Frenkel, and Silicon Valley’s Michael Rotenberg numbering among the executive producers.

As described in the press release, the half-hour pilot will follow Maxine (portrayed by Milioti) flanked by her two best friends Natalie (Pedrad) and Amy (not yet cast), as well as her stepbrother Landis (not yet cast) as they “navigate the abject shit-storm that is adulthood.” Maxine is described as “an entitled actress-turned-process-server who takes lemons and makes a fire out of lemons, burning herself and others,” while street-smart Natalie is both dependent on and disgusted by her side-job in dealing weed and prescription drugs.

The show’s premise, while a little vague, shows a lot of promise, especially with comediennes like Milioti and Pedrad at the helm. Milioti has given impressive performances on both big and small screens, being featured in The Wolf of Wall Street as well as How I Met Your Mother, Fargo and The Mindy Project, on top of receiving a Tony nomination for her work on the Broadway show Once. Pedrad, meanwhile, has shown off her comedy prowess as a writer for the hit Fox show New Girl and made cameos on decorated shows like Tina Fey’s 30 Rock. Her writing for 30 Rock earned her consecutive nominations for the prestigious Writers Guild of America award.

“We are so excited to be working with a network as fearless as FX and are honored to potentially join the fives of shows about women on television today,” said the two actresses enthusiastically when asked about their feelings on the network partnership.
