FX Renews Archer for Three More Seasons

TV News

Sterling Archer is on his way back to FX again, and again, and again. As of today, the network has refreshed its delightfully deranged spy comedy Archer for three new seasons.

Season eight of the animated series will debut in early 2017 and run for only eight episodes, rather than the usual 10-13. Seasons nine and ten, also consisting of eight episodes each, are without even approximate premiere dates. It’s unclear whether the show will end after its tenth season.

“We can’t say enough about what Adam [Reed], Matt [Thompson] and the entire Archer team at Floyd County have done to keep this series so insanely funny and vital through seven seasons,” FX original programming president Nick Grad said in the announcement. “The move to Los Angeles this past season as private detectives was just the latest twist in Archer’s legendary exploits, and the next three seasons will to be just as amazing and unpredictable.”

The renewal is a pleasantly semi-surprising one, as FX took its time picking Archer back up after the show’s seventh season ended on June 2. Also, certain plot developments from the season seven finale that we won’t spoil for you here left fans of the show with serious doubts as to whether Archer and his fellow spies-turned-P.I.s would come back at all.
